Delhi to Varanasi

About Varanasi Tour Package from Delhi

Aug 13, 2026 6 min read

The Vande Bharat from New Delhi reaches Varanasi around 2 pm. That leaves enough daylight to check in, walk to Dashashwamedh Ghat and watch the evening Ganga Aarti on the same day. This is why a good Varanasi tour package from Delhi has to be planned around the travel leg first and the temple list second.

This page covers our 3, 4 and 5 day trips from Delhi, how to get between the two cities, a realistic day plan and the best time to go. If you want to see everything we run in the city and across Uttar Pradesh, browse our Varanasi trip packages.

Our Varanasi Tour Packages from Delhi

We run three Delhi trips. Each one can be adjusted for your dates, hotel category and group size.

Package Duration Best for
3 Days Varanasi Tour Package from Delhi 3 Days / 2 Nights Long weekends and first visits
4 Days Varanasi Tour Package from Delhi 4 Days / 3 Nights Families, parents and a slower pace
4N/5D Varanasi Tour Package from Delhi 5 Days / 4 Nights Longer stays and unhurried sightseeing

The 3 day trip covers the essentials: Ganga Aarti, a sunrise boat ride, Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Sarnath. The 4 day trip gives each of those more room, with a rest window between the early boat ride and the evening Aarti. The 5 day trip suits travellers who want to move slowly or ask us to plan a nearby stop. Open each package page for the day by day itinerary.

How to Choose Between 3, 4 and 5 Days

The first and last days of any Delhi trip are partly spent travelling. A 3 day trip usually gives you one full day and two half days in the city. A 4 day trip gives you two full days, and that is the point where Varanasi stops feeling rushed.

Choose 3 days if you are flying, have visited a pilgrimage city before, or only have a long weekend. Choose 4 days if you are travelling with children or elderly parents, because the stone steps and the lanes around the temple tire people faster than expected. Choose 5 days if you want long breaks between activities or plan to add another city. For a deeper comparison, read our guide on how many days you need in Varanasi.

Delhi to Varanasi by Train, Flight or Road

Mode Time What to know
Flight About 1 hour 15 minutes Lands at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, roughly 25 km from the city centre. Best for 3 day trips and senior travellers.
Vande Bharat About 8 hours Leaves New Delhi at 6:00 am and arrives around 2:00 pm. It does not run every day, so check IRCTC for current days.
Other express trains Roughly 9 to 14 hours Kashi Vishwanath Express and Shiv Ganga Express run on this route. Overnight trains save a hotel night.
Road About 820 km, 12 to 14 hours Works best with a stop in Agra or Prayagraj to break the drive.

An overnight train saves money, but you reach Varanasi tired and lose the first morning. A flight costs more but gives you a full first day. Fares also climb sharply around Dev Deepawali, so book your Delhi leg early.

Tell us your Delhi travel dates and preferred mode. We will plan hotel check-in and Aarti timing around your arrival. For a full comparison, see our guide on how to reach Varanasi, and for airport pickup costs read the Varanasi airport taxi fare guide.

A Sample 3 Day Plan from Delhi

Day 1: arrive and see the Aarti

Arrive by flight or Vande Bharat, check in and rest for an hour. Walk or drive to Dashashwamedh Ghat and reach the steps 30 to 45 minutes before the Ganga Aarti to get a good spot. Dinner in the old city finishes the day.

Day 2: boat ride, temple and Sarnath

Start with a sunrise boat ride at 5:00 to 5:30 am, when pilgrims take their dawn dip. After breakfast, visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple and walk the lanes between the temple and the ghat. In the afternoon, spend half a day at Sarnath, where the Dhamek Stupa and the museum are the main stops.

Day 3: lanes, silk and departure

Take a slow morning walk along the ghats and visit Manikarnika Ghat respectfully with a guide. Leave time for Banarasi silk or brassware shopping before your flight or train back to Delhi. For hour by hour timings, read our Varanasi itinerary for 3 days.

What Your Package Covers

  • Hotel stay for the nights in your plan
  • Private vehicle and driver for pickup, sightseeing and drop
  • A local guide for the main temple and ghat visits
  • Meals as specified in your itinerary
  • One point of contact through the trip

The private vehicle matters more than it sounds. Roads near the ghats close to traffic during Aarti hours, and a driver who knows Varanasi plans around that.

Best Time to Visit Varanasi from Delhi

October to March is the most comfortable window, with temperatures mostly between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius. Dev Deepawali falls on Tuesday, 24 November 2026, when the ghats are lit with thousands of diyas. Hotels and trains fill up weeks ahead, so book early if you are targeting that date. See our Dev Deepawali package for details.

April to June is hot, often crossing 40 degrees, so plan sightseeing for early morning and evening. July to September brings a fuller river and a greener city, but sudden rain can disrupt boat rides. For a month by month breakdown, read the guide on the best time to visit Varanasi.

Places You Will Cover

  • Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, now reached through the temple corridor
  • Dashashwamedh Ghat for the evening Ganga Aarti
  • Assi Ghat for a quieter sunrise and morning walk
  • Manikarnika Ghat, where photography is generally discouraged
  • Sarnath, about 30 to 40 minutes from the centre
  • New Vishwanath Temple inside Banaras Hindu University

Varanasi has around 84 ghats, so a short trip works best when it focuses on a few well chosen spots. Our guide to places to visit in Varanasi lists more, and the Ganga Aarti timing guide helps you plan the evening.

Add Ayodhya or Prayagraj to Your Trip

Most travellers from Delhi eventually pair Varanasi with Prayagraj and Ayodhya. Our Uttar Pradesh circuits start from Varanasi, so the Delhi leg is arranged around them. Share your dates and we will plan both parts together.

Good starting points are the 4 day Varanasi Prayagraj Ayodhya package and the Varanasi Ayodhya Prayagraj itinerary. If budget is the deciding factor, see the best Varanasi tour packages under ₹10,000.

Food and Shopping Worth Planning For

Start a morning with kachori sabzi and a kulhad lassi. In winter, look for malaiyo, a saffron milk foam sold only in the colder months. Our guide to the best places to eat in Varanasi covers where to go.

Banarasi silk is the signature buy, but stick to established weavers because machine made imitations are common. Brassware near Thatheri Bazaar and GI tagged wooden toys make easier gifts. Read what to buy in Varanasi before you shop.

Tips for Your First Varanasi Trip

  • Remove your shoes before entering temples
  • Cover shoulders and knees near temples and ghats
  • Visit the ghats early morning or late evening for fewer crowds
  • Hire only licensed local guides, not people who approach you near a temple
  • Carry some cash, since small stalls in the old city often do not take cards
  • Book your Delhi tickets and hotel a few weeks ahead for Dev Deepawali and Maha Shivratri
